I Want to Participate in The Science Fair

What Do I Do?

The Science Fair website has all the information for you to understand how the Science Fair process will work, including the Rules and Requirements, and provides a simple form to register your work and sign up for the Science Fair. Below are the various steps to be taken to get you to the Science Fair.

Getting Started

Step 1: Brainstorm for ideas to decide on an area of interest. You should do a project on a subject that you are interested in or a question that fascinates you. In considering what your project should be, consider the theme of 2024 Science Fair: CLIMATE SOLUTIONS. This is a timely topic containing aspects of science, engineering, politics, and the economy. Special awards will be given to those projects that most closely adhere to this theme. Examples of Climate Solutions projects can be found on the Theme page of the Science Fair website.

Choose a 'topic' that will enable you to read and understand the literature and ensure that the 'topic' is manageable, and that material is available. You may find some ideas in this video.

Step 2: Visit the Science Fair website and explore it to learn more about the Science Fair and how it will be conducted, as well as finding out about the rules for participating in the Science Fair and a simple form for registering your project.

Step 3: Discuss your ideas with your science teacher to get further thoughts and help.

Step 4: Narrow your ideas down to a testable question and hypothesis. Then design an 'experiment' to test your hypothesis. This is the critical step because what you do is dependent on what question(s) you are answering.

Step 5: Write a 'Project' Outline. This is where you determine exactly what you will do; what you will need; how you will go about answering the questions you proposed or testing the hypothesis; making a timeline; etc.

Conducting your project

Step 6: Using your project outline, conduct your research or experiment or construction and collect the data. Then draw conclusions from your data. This is the real fun part. Enjoy it!

Step 7: Consolidate your findings or research and write a report that covers all the necessary aspects of your project. You will find guidance for writing the report in the Requirements and Rules. When completed, the team uploads the report to a file sharing site of their choice (ex. Google Drive, Dropbox, Mega, etc.). The team then gets a Share Link for their report file to be used for registration of their project.

Registration and judging

Step 8: Register for the Science Fair on the Science Fair website Registration by 5 April 2024. The Share Link for the report to the Science Fair needs to be included at that time. Later, the judges will use the Share Links to obtain the report for their review and evaluation.

Step 9: Prepare a display for the Science Fair. The display should be arranged so that it communicates a summary of the project. The displays must be set up between 17:00 and 20:00 on the Friday evening before the Science Fair (19 April 2024) at the Lycée Francais de Vienne. Additional guidance will be provided to your teacher later.

Step 10: Be at the Lycée on 20 April 2024 (Saturday) to speak with judges about the project. The judges will be asking clarifying questions and providing you with valuable feedback and suggestions.

Step 11: At the conclusion of project interviews at 12:00, a lunch will be provided for all students and teachers, The Science Fair Organizers and the Lycée will provide displays, games, entertainment to keep you and the other students occupied until the Science Fair is open to the public at 14:00, etc.

Step 12: There will be an Awards Reception shortly after the judging (4 PM on 20 April) in the Studio Molliere at the Lycée. The presentation of awards will be open to all students, their parents, teachers, and judges. At that time, there will be an important speaker announcing the awards.
