Thanks to the Lycée Français de Vienne for hosting the 2024 Vienna Science Fair!

THEME OF 2024 VIENNA SCIENCE FAIR

Students should do a project on a subject they are interested in or a question that fascinates them. But in considering what their project should be, they should consider using the theme of the 2024 Science Fair: CLIMATE SOLUTIONS. This is a timely topic containing aspects of science, engineering, politics, and the economy. Special awards will be given to those projects that most closely adhere to this theme.

CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

  • Renewable Energy: Explore and present innovative ways to harness renewable energy sources like solar, wind, or hydropower to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Investigate methods to lower carbon footprints, such as energy- efficient technologies, sustainable transportation options, or carbon capture techniques.
  • Waste Reduction: Showcase projects related to waste reduction, recycling, or composting to minimize environmental impact.
  • Ecosystem Preservation: Study and propose solutions for protecting ecosystems, like reforestation efforts, wetland restoration, or biodiversity conservation.
  • Climate Modeling: Create climate models or simulations to predict future climate scenarios and suggest mitigation strategies.
  • Sustainable Agriculture: Explore sustainable farming practices or innovative agricultural technologies that reduce emissions and promote food security.
  • Climate Education: Develop educational materials or campaigns to raise awareness about climate change and inspire action within communities.
  • Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: Investigate infrastructure improvements or adaptations to withstand the impacts of climate change, like sea-level rise or extreme weather events.
  • Carbon Sequestration: Study natural or artificial methods of carbon sequestration, such as carbon-absorbing materials or enhanced reforestation techniques.
  • Green Technology: Research and present projects related to green technologies, such as nuclear power, electric vehicles, energy-efficient appliances, or sustainable building materials.

Students should remember to follow the scientific method, conduct thorough research, gather data, and present their findings clearly to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work. Collaboration with experts and organizations working on climate issues may also enhance the quality and impact of the project and are encouraged by the Science Fair organizers.
